PLENARY PANEL: Current Approaches for Benchmarking Screening and Progress Monitoring in Early Literacy and Language
Presenters: Scott McConnell and Roland Good
This panel provides an overview of technical and practical considerations in setting benchmarks for screening and progress monitoring in early literacy and language domains for RTI in early childhood settings. Assessment systems frequently provide benchmarks for interpreting periodic assessments conducted to identify children who might benefit from more intensive interventions and to evaluate observed progress children are making in these more intensive intervention conditions. In both cases, benchmarks are one useful piece of information in determining whether to change intervention conditions for individual children. Two standard-setting methods are described, one using teacher ratings of student performance, and one based on predictive utility.
