Good Early Literacy Instruction – for Now and for Then

This presentation addresses both the content (what) and methodology (how) of “tier 1″ scientifically based early literacy instruction. I examine the different curricular areas that warrant inclusion in the instructional day for preK-grade 2 as well as instructional strategies supported by research. In doing so, I take both a short-term view – what is necessary for success in the early years; and a long-term view – what needs to happen in preK-grade 2 to maximize the likelihood of literacy success in upper elementary, middle, and high school?
